CyberGEO Showcases Underground Pipeline AR at Gas Forum

At the 12th China Smart Gas Development Forum in Beijing, we showed how AR turns 2D GIS records into verified 3D, captures new pipe before backfill, and guides station inspections.

CyberGEO presented its latest Vision AR solutions at the 12th China Smart Gas Development Forum in Beijing. Held from 20 to 22 May, the event gathered nearly 600 industry professionals to discuss digital transformation, safety management, and smart city governance in the gas sector.

Enhancing GIS Data with AR

A major highlight was our approach to underground pipeline AR and GIS data governance. Traditional GIS data often lacks field accuracy. Our AR-GIS correction workflow converts 2D GIS data into lightweight 3D models automatically.

Field workers use AR terminals to achieve centimetre-level virtual-to-real matching for on-site verification. Deviations can be reported with a one-click work order for rapid rectification. In a field test covering 30 kilometres of pipeline, the workflow identified 318 issues and lifted data accuracy from 80% to approximately 95%.

Building Digital Twins Before Construction

For new and upgraded pipeline projects, we demonstrated the Vision AR Handheld. Captured before the trench is backfilled, the system delivers 1:1 3D reality modelling and creates a permanent digital archive of the construction process.

These models carry real coordinates and dimensions, which enables precise visual layout and direct integration with existing GIS for future maintenance. Once the trench is closed, the record of what was actually buried stays exact.

AR Inspection for Stations and Complexes

For high-complexity environments such as gas stations and commercial complexes, we introduced our digital twin plus AR operating model. This two-part architecture pairs an online platform for remote monitoring with the Vision AR app for on-site inspection.

The platform integrates point cloud, BIM, and 3D Gaussian models to build a 1:1 digital twin base. On site, crews use the app for standardised inspection guidance, real-time 3D data visualisation, and automated path recording. This closes the gap between remote data management and front-line field work, which makes maintenance safer and more efficient.
